Weather & TRAIL Flood Closings

In Case of Bad Weather:

You never know what you are going to get in Missouri in the spring! Be prepared for perfect weather and not so perfect weather. Bring a change of clothes for dropping temperatures and be prepared to get wet just in case! Pack extra clothes and your overnight gear in plastic bags incase it does rain and your bags are waiting for you in a storm before you arrive at Kemper Park. We have had some beautiful and sunny Jamboree days but have also had some cool and wet ones!

Severe Storms

Watch - This means that severe thunderstorms or tornadoes are possible.  Remain alert for approaching storms by watching the sky. Ride staff will monitor the NOAA Weather Radio for information and will relay that information to you.

Warning - Take Shelter Immediately.  A severe thunderstorm or tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. Ride staff will monitor the NOAA Weather Radio for information and will inform you immediately, as well as direct you to shelter.

SHELTER LOCATIONS ON THE ROUTE:

  • Rocheport - Rocheport Tunnel on the route

  • Boonville - The YMCA building next to Kemper Park

  • Other spots on route: Use your best judgement depending on your location

If you are in a vehicle or tent:

  • Never try to outrun a tornado in a car or truck. Instead, leave the vehicle immediately for safe shelter.

  • If in a tent, leave the tent immediately for safe shelter.

  • If time allows, go to shelters indicated below.

If you are outside with no shelter:

  • Lie flat in a nearby ditch or depression and cover your head with your hands.

  • Be aware of the potential for flooding.

  • Do NOT get under an overpass or bridge.  You are safer in a low, flat location.

  • Watch out for flying debris.  Flying debris from tornadoes causes most fatalities and injuries.

In the case of flooding there may be a section of trail on the Katy Trail that may be closed to flooding. In the case of this occurrence we are posting the detour route around the closed trail below.  If we get an update of a trail closure we will post it on the event APP. - SEE SECTION BELOW ON TRAIL CLOSURE ROUTE

Emergency announcements will be made by the following means:

  • PA: The sound of the PA that will be used in Boonville and all of the town stops along the trail will be loud enough that anyone present will be able to hear it.

  • Bullhorns: Vendor Coordinator will disperse emergency information to Vendor Area via Bullhorns.

  • Event APP: Many of our riders will have an event APP on their phones.  We will be able to “push notifications” on the APP with emergency updates.

  • Social Media: Our social media page as well will have pre-scripted alerts and updates for everyone who is following it with what is going on and the certain plan of escape if they are attending the festival or in the area.
